FORECAST RUSSIA
Two global models, eleven time zones, one atlas of the country
Russia, right now · Россия сейчас
LOADING…2 m temperature and 10 m wind for the current hour, each place at its own clock. Click a place for its forecast, a federal district for its maps. Drawn on an Albers equal-area conic — the projection of Russian atlases, true to area from the Baltic to the Bering Strait — over relief made here from the elevation itself, with the 180° meridian stitched shut so that Chukotka stays in one piece.

ECMWF · DWDHow to read it
Two models, one instant. Russia publishes no open model grids, so the guidance here is the two global models a forecaster there reads alongside Roshydromet's own: ECMWF's HRES at 0.1° and DWD's ICON at 13 km. The maps hold the valid time as you switch between them, and a click compares both at one point.
Nothing is rendered here. Both models are drawn, once, for the whole planet by two sibling sites — Forecast Euro and Forecast Germany — and this atlas is a window onto their frames. The values on the plate are read back out of those frames.
Read a value anywhere. Every map frame is drawn through a fixed palette — a reversible encoding of the field — so the pointer reads the model's number back out of the pixel it is over. ICON publishes its maps in 2 °C bands, so its numbers come in those steps.
Each place at its own clock. Russia keeps eleven time zones and no daylight saving; Kaliningrad is nine hours behind Anadyr. A place is always read in its own zone, and winds default to km/h with m/s one tap away.
